Biography:
Jamie McIntosh serves as the Executive Director of International Justice Mission Canada. IJM is an international human rights agency that rescues victims of violence, sexual exploitation, slavery and oppression. Based on referrals of abuse received from relief and development organizations, IJM conducts professional investigations of the abuses and mobilizes intervention on behalf of the victims.
As founding director of IJM's Canadian affiliate, McIntosh meets with government officials, justice professionals, and business and religious leaders to advance the cause of the oppressed. McIntosh leads teams of lawyers and investigators on international intervention efforts, provides counsel and support to IJM staff overseas, and regularly addresses emerging justice issues through media appearances and public events.
After commencing undergraduate studies at the University of Western Ontario in London, McIntosh received advanced leadership training through Genesis Fellowship in Santa Rosa, California. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Studies from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. McIntosh is a graduate of Executive Arrow, a leadership program for senior non-profit executives pioneered by Dr. Leighton Ford. McIntosh has recently been accepted to read for his Master of Studies in International Human Rights Law at Oxford University.
During overseas deployments, McIntosh has provided assistance in securing the release of families from bonded slavery and participated in investigative operations leading to the rescue of forced child prostitutes. His responsibilities have taken him to Africa, to gather documentary footage on torture, police misconduct and violent property grabbing, to Latin America, to conduct groundwork for a new field office, and to Southeast Asia, to collaborate with officials on human trafficking and child sex tourism countermeasures.
Prior to founding IJM Canada in 2002, McIntosh worked for four years with an international relief and development agency as an advocate for children at risk. An ordained minister, McIntosh has also served as a pastor in two churches in California, receiving a denominational appointment to oversee the youth ministries of more than 35 churches in the San Francisco Bay Area. While still in college, McIntosh was asked to serve as a regional speaker for the college covering a ten-state region.
McIntosh currently serves as a founding member of the Canadian Police Chiefs International Service Agency. McIntosh has been called upon to give testimony before the House of Commons’ Status of Women committee for its research into human trafficking in advance of the report “Turning Outrage into Action”. McIntosh has conducted briefings on modern slavery and sex trafficking for Senators and Members of Parliament, and has given addresses on human rights and student activism on Parliament Hill. For the past several years McIntosh has served as a guest lecturer for the Ontario Police College’s Investigating Offences Against Children course. Recently, McIntosh has spoken at venues including: the Toronto Police Service, Toronto City Hall and the faculties of law at the University of Western Ontario, the University of Windsor, and the University  of British Columbia. McIntosh recently delivered the keynote address for the Frontenac Regional Conference of the Justices of the Ontario Superior Court, and major addresses for the 11th and 12th Annual Toronto Police Service International Sex Crimes Investigators Conference. McIntosh has written articles on police misconduct, illegal detention, illegal land seizure and torture. McIntosh and the work of IJM have been featured on CBC Television, CBC Radio One, Global, CTV, CityTV, Canada.com and in The Ottawa Citizen and The London Free Press.
