LatterRain has a strong desire to get involved in the lives of young people through music, fun, or just talking. “Our goal is not just to show up at a gig or performance and play some songs and leave,” says Matt. “We want to connect with our audience and give them something more than a rock show and a good time. We want to get to know people and make new friends. It’s about more than the music… it’s about helping and serving people. We want to be available to lend a helping hand, to listen, to love. “The do-it-yourself method of making records is the only way that makes sense to me. No one else can capture the vision I have for a specific sound. There are something’s in art you just can’t communicate”, Scott explains. After months of juggling recording options with various producers and studios, Orr ended up taking the wheel himself. “People who work in the music industry make it out to be a dangerous proposition for an artist to 'go it alone' and write, produce and market a recording by oneself”, he says. However, Orr’s personal ambition, however, has willed him to new heights with this project.
Two years after the release of Starfield’s eponymous debut, brothers Tim and Jon Neufeld, bassist Shaun Huberts and drummer Gordie Cochran waste no time getting to the point on Beauty in the Broken. On “My Generation,” the lead track, they cut through the noise, the media clutter, the surface images, the shallow posturing. “My generation is aching for real.” Taking a title that resonates through the decades of popular music, the four members of Starfield find the defining characteristic of their generation. That audible ache for honesty and relevance resonates throughout the entire album – all the way to “Shipwreck,” where the yearning becomes more intimate in the album’s final, whispered line, “Your life in me, changing who I am to who I need to be.”
The Toronto Mass Choir (TMC) sparked a new fire into their music ministry with the release of their sixth album Going Home, the first studio recording since their Juno Award winning Instrument of Praise. The fulfillment of a deep passion first inspired during TMC’s tour of Barbados and Trinidad in 2002, the CD showcases the choir’s soulful style of reggae, calypso, ska and new sounds with the fusion of jazz and reggae. The September 2007 release of Going Home also marked the beginning of the choir’s year-long journey, commemorating two decades of energetic ministry. Through worldwide performances, like their spring 2008 missions trip to Poland, TMC continues to inspire and bring on the praise.
